Automated Quality Estimation (AQE) and Automated Post-Editing (APE)
Alison Toon, Arle Lommel, 25 February 2025Automated quality estimation (AQE) and automated post-editing (APE) are techniques to reduce the amount of human activity needed to check or improve machine translation output.
AQE provides a numeric score that indicates the likelihood that a translation is correct. APE uses a large language model (LLM) with custom prompts and data to attempt to improve the translated segment.
Used in conjunction with trained neural MT engines or LLM translation, well-defined terminology, and style guides, these tools can help further automate the delivery of high-quality translation.
