The Financial Times covers machine translation quality prediction, ModelFront and the shift to post-editing

15 November 2023

The Financial Times has highlighted machine translation quality prediction, in a new article about DeepL and the AI translation boom.

Advances in AI offer the potential to save money and time, with human translators stepping in only where needed — or as directed by quality prediction software, such as that made by US start-up ModelFront.

The article also points out that the shift from translating from scratch to post-editing the output of AI is mostly complete.

By 2025, 75 per cent of human translators’ work will consist of reviewing and editing machine-translated text, according to a 2021 study by technology research company Gartner.

The Financial Times is a respected source of business and economic news. Besides ModelFront and DeepL, the article mentions OpenAI, Google, Meta, Cisco and Microsoft.
